Two great tracks, that show the duo's evolution from their debut. The production is better, more experienced and also the music is more powerful and full of grit, without losing its sensitive and melodic touch. This is a real, fresh and serious alternative view on cumbia and reggaeton!
After a brief hiatus, CUERPOS are back with a two-track EP entitled “PLUMAS”. Defying easy categorization, PLUMAS represents a more polished, refined product that draws from the duo’s eclectic musical pallet.
The A-side features the title track, “Plumas”, which is a mélange of dubbed-out synths and FX, psychedelic guitar riffs, and haunting vocals inspired by Nicanor Parra’s “Poemas y Antipoemas”. These disparate elements are fused together with a shuffling percussive groove and a driving bassline, making the track suitable for the adventurous DJ.
The B-side of the record features a track that CUERPOS has been performing for quite some time, “Lámpara”. This track draws influence from the psychedelic cumbia pioneered by groups such as Los Mirlos, albeit with a modern twist. Indeed, throughout the track, a lurching cumbia bassline is paired with dub chords, tripped-out synth leads, and a propulsive drum groove.
CUERPOS burst onto the Canadian electronic/indie music scene in 2019 with their debut project, “íntimo”. Created in conjunction with the 2019 RPM Music Challenge, the six-track debut was entirely self-produced, mixed, mastered, and released in one month. Incidentally, many of the tracks are raw and reminiscent of demos; however, they do convey the duo’s spirit in an emotional and ethereal way.
Since then, CUERPOS has been busy playing shows and festivals across the island of Newfoundland, including: Out of Earshot, Bestkind BBQ, and Lawnya Vawnya. With the release of PLUMAS, the duo continues to share their artistic vision with the world and intends to travel throughout Canada to promote the record.
